What is Volk Furs?

Volk Furs creates handcrafted fur goods and apparel rooted in North American trapping tradition. Our products are built from natural materials and made with an emphasis on craftsmanship, function, durability, and traditional fur-working skills.

Where are Volk Furs products made?

Our products are handcrafted in North Dakota using genuine fur and traditional fur-working techniques.

Are Volk Furs products handmade?

Yes. Our fur products are handcrafted rather than mass-produced. Because of this, small variations between individual products are normal and are part of what makes each piece unique.

Is the fur real?

Yes. Volk Furs specializes in products made with genuine fur. We use natural fur from North American furbearers, including species such as coyote, raccoon, red fox, and beaver.

Why does my fur look slightly different from the photos?

Real fur is a natural material. Color, markings, density, length, texture, and overall appearance can vary from one animal to another.

This means your finished product may not look exactly like another product or the photographs shown online. We consider this natural variation part of the character and authenticity of genuine fur.

Fur & Trapping

Where does Volk Furs get its fur?

Our fur comes primarily from North American trapping and hunting.

We believe responsible trapping provides a valuable source of natural materials while playing an important role in wildlife management and supporting the traditions and communities connected to the North American fur trade.

Does buying a Volk Furs product support trapping?

Yes. Purchasing products made from legally harvested fur helps create demand for a renewable natural resource and supports the trappers, fur handlers, and craftspeople who participate in the North American fur trade.

Why use real fur instead of synthetic fur?

Real fur has natural insulating properties that make it exceptionally well suited to cold-weather clothing and accessories. It is also durable, repairable, and biodegradable as a natural material.

Our goal is to take a traditionally harvested natural resource and turn it into functional products that can be used and enjoyed for years.

Is all fur legally sourced?

Volk Furs is committed to sourcing and selling fur in accordance with applicable wildlife laws and regulations.

Customers are responsible for complying with applicable laws when transporting or importing fur products across state or international borders.

Are fur products legal to buy and sell?

Laws concerning the possession, sale, transportation, and importation of wildlife products can vary by species and location.

Volk Furs complies with applicable laws and regulations governing the products we sell. Customers are responsible for understanding any laws that apply to their particular location or intended use.

Products & Sizing

How do I determine my hat size?

Measure around your head where you want the hat to sit, generally about ½ inch above your eyebrows and ears.

Keep the measuring tape comfortably snug without pulling it tightly.

Compare your measurement with the sizing information provided on the individual product page. If you’re unsure about your size, contact us before ordering and we’ll be happy to help.

What if I’m between sizes?

If your measurement falls between sizes, contact us before placing your order. Depending on the particular hat and construction, we may be able to recommend the best size or make an adjustment.

Can I try on a hat?

Absolutely. Our return policy allows eligible products to be tried on, provided they remain in essentially new condition.

Please try hats on indoors and avoid wearing them outside before deciding whether you want to keep them.

Will every Volk Furs hat look exactly like the picture?

No—and that’s one of the characteristics of genuine fur.

Each animal has its own unique coloration, markings, fur density, and texture. Product photographs are representative of the product, but your individual piece may have natural variations.

How warm are your fur hats?

Genuine fur is naturally well insulated and is particularly effective in cold and windy conditions.

The warmth of a finished hat depends on the species of fur, fur density, construction, lining, fit, and weather conditions.

Can I wear my fur hat in the snow?

Yes. Our products are designed with winter use in mind. However, fur should be treated as a natural material and should not be intentionally saturated with water.

If your fur becomes wet, allow it to dry naturally at room temperature. Do not use a hair dryer, heater, fireplace, or other direct heat source.

Caring for Your Fur

How should I store my fur product?

Store fur in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.

Avoid storing fur in airtight plastic bags for extended periods. Allow the material to breathe and avoid placing heavy objects on top of it.

What happens if my fur gets wet?

If your fur becomes wet, gently shake off excess moisture and allow it to air dry naturally.

Keep it away from direct heat. Do not use a hair dryer or place it on a radiator, heater, or other heat source.

Once dry, gently shake or brush the fur as appropriate.

Can I wash my fur product?

Do not put genuine fur products in a household washing machine or dryer.

Cleaning requirements vary depending on the type of fur and construction. If your product requires professional cleaning, use a cleaner experienced in handling genuine fur.

How long will a fur product last?

With proper care, quality fur products can last for many years.

One of the advantages of genuine fur is that it can often be repaired or maintained rather than simply discarded when a component eventually wears out.

Ordering

How do I place an order?

Select the product you’d like to purchase, choose any available options, add it to your cart, and complete checkout.

Once your order is successfully placed, you’ll receive an order confirmation.

Can I change or cancel my order?

If you need to change or cancel an order, contact us as soon as possible at info@volkfurs.com.

Because many of our products are handmade and orders may begin processing quickly, we cannot guarantee that changes or cancellations will be possible after an order has been placed.

Are Volk Furs products made to order?

Some products may be made in limited quantities or produced after an order is placed. Product pages will indicate applicable processing or production times.

Because our products are handcrafted, production times may vary.

Will my product look exactly like another Volk Furs product?

Not necessarily. Natural fur varies from animal to animal, and handmade construction can produce small differences in appearance.

These variations are expected and are part of owning a handmade natural-fur product.

Shipping

Where does Volk Furs ship?

Volk Furs ships to locations where the products can legally be shipped.

Certain wildlife products may be subject to additional restrictions depending on the destination. International orders may have additional requirements.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are generally shipped after the product has been completed and prepared for shipment. Processing times can vary depending on whether the product is already in stock or needs to be handcrafted.

Estimated shipping information will be provided during the ordering process when available.

Will I receive tracking information?

Yes. When tracking is available, tracking information will be provided after your order ships.

What happens if my package is damaged?

If your package arrives damaged, take photographs of the packaging and product and contact us as soon as possible.

For damaged, defective, or incorrect orders, please contact us within 7 days of delivery.

What happens if my package is lost?

If tracking indicates that a package has been delivered but you cannot locate it, contact the carrier first and then contact us if additional assistance is needed.

We will work with you to determine the appropriate next steps.

Returns & Exchanges

What is the Volk Furs return policy?

We offer a 30-day return period beginning on the date your order is delivered.

Eligible products must be unused, unworn, and returned in their original condition.

Who pays for return shipping?

For returns due to a change of mind, incorrect size, personal preference, or similar reasons, the customer is responsible for return shipping.

If you receive an incorrect, damaged, or defective item, Volk Furs will cover the reasonable cost of return shipping.

Can I exchange a product?

Because many of our products are handmade in limited quantities, exchanges are not guaranteed.

If you need a different size or product, you may return the eligible item under our return policy and place a new order.

Can I return a custom-made product?

Custom and made-to-order products are generally final sale because they are created specifically for the customer.

If a custom product has a manufacturing defect or does not match the agreed-upon specifications, contact us and we’ll work with you to resolve the issue.

What if I receive the wrong product?

We’ll work with you to correct the problem.

Custom Fur Work

Can Volk Furs make a product from my own fur?

Yes. We offer custom fur work using customer-supplied materials for qualifying projects.

Can I send you my own pelts?

Potentially, depending on the project and condition of the fur.

What can you make from my fur?

Depending on the species, number of pelts, condition, and amount of usable fur, we may be able to create products such as hats, mittens, headbands, blankets, and other custom items.

We’ll evaluate the available material and discuss the possibilities with you before beginning the project.

What happens if my fur isn’t suitable for a project?

We’ll evaluate customer-supplied fur before beginning work. If the material is unsuitable for the requested product because of condition, size, damage, hair loss, or other factors, we’ll discuss the situation with you before proceeding.

Can I get my unused fur back?

Customer-supplied materials that remain after a project will be handled according to the agreement made for that project.

If you want unused materials returned, please discuss this with us before work begins.

Product Availability

Why are some products out of stock?

Many Volk Furs products are produced in small quantities because we work with natural materials and handcraft our products.

A product may be temporarily unavailable because we are waiting for suitable fur, producing additional inventory, or working through existing orders.

Can I request a product that is sold out?

Yes. Contact us and let us know what you’re looking for.

Depending on available materials and production schedules, we may be able to make another one or let you know when a similar product becomes available.

Can I request a specific fur color or pattern?

Natural fur varies considerably, so we cannot always guarantee an exact color or pattern.

However, if you’re looking for something specific, contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what may be possible.

International Orders & Wildlife Regulations

Do you ship internationally?

International shipping may be available for eligible products and destinations.

Because wildlife products can be subject to import restrictions, permits, documentation, or species-specific regulations, international orders may require additional review.

What is CITES?

CITES is the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. It is an international agreement that regulates international trade in certain wildlife species and products made from them.

Requirements vary depending on the species, country of origin, destination country, and product.

Am I responsible for import requirements?

Yes. Customers are responsible for understanding and complying with the laws and import requirements of their destination country.
